Columbia Grange No. 267. Corbett, Oregon was Shocked with Grief at the notice of the accidental death at Modesto California Apr 28 of George Knieriem 91 year old charter member. Mr. Knieriem had gone to Cali for a short visit with his son William who was also killed in this same tragic accident.
Columbia Grange meets in regular session Saturday May 2nd to drape our charter and attend in a body the funeral of our much loved member and to have change of the burial previses.
Mr. Knieriem was born in Germany in 1844 and at the age of seven years came with his father to the United States, settling in Pennsylvania. later they loved to Iowa where in 1872 he Married Emily Trobee.
Mr. Knieriem and his family moved to Latourell Falls in East Multnomah County in 1891. He and his wife helped organize the Columbia Grange in 1893. They were ardent and timeless workers in the home grange, he haring filled nearly every office in the grange, including wrihy Masters Station. He was also a member of State and National Grange.
Mr. Knieriem was the last member of M. A. Russ past- G. A. R. at Gresham, Ore, and was then transferred to George Wright post at Portland, East Multnomah County and Columbia Grange has indeed lost a "Grand Old Man," his memory will long be cherished.
