Description

Stone masons knapping hammer. This knapping hammer was used in the construction of the Cascade Locks and Canal by stonemasons. The knapping hammer is made of a wooden handle with a stone head. The stone head it tension fitted onto the handle through a hole in the stone. The wood is then split to expand in the hole creating the tension fit.
