Description

Spirit level or bubble level used in the construction of the Cascade Locks and Canal. The level is made of wood with water filled glass inserted into the wood through a hole and then filled. The water is still in the glass in both glass tubes. Metal plaque on the side of the level reads, "Adjusting screw. Stanley Rule & Level Co. Patents Nov 11, 1862. July 2, 1872." The plaque has a viewing hole in the middle that the water in the level is visible.
