Description

A wood framed painted window from the prohibition era days. Painting has a tree in a circle surrounded by the words General Council, O.T.U. organized Nov. 11. 1868., on the bottom portion of the window This is framed by a square with the words Honor, Liberty, Truth, Justice, Love, and Prohibition. The words Loyal: Temperance: Unity are painted above the half round on top section of the window.

Context

There was an Orange County Temperance Society that was organized in Chelsea in the late 1850's. Not much is known about this old window, except that it was found in the old Leon Grant building which was several buildings north of the Lewis house on the the east side of Main Street.
