Description

Set of two (2) Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) iron grave markers, specifically for the 45th division, used to honor Union Civil War (1861-1865) veterans. The GAR was a fraternal organization formed after the Civil War for Union veterans.

Context

These posts were originally put in Jenks brook Cemetery to mark veteran's graves by the Waterson #45 post in Chelsea, whose meeting place was the Tarbel block, organized in 1888. The markers were recently replaced with newer markers.
