Current owner (2024) is Caleb Ricks. Also known as the Stearns-Bixby-Richter House. The main portion of the house was built by John Stearns. William Freeman Vilas, a nineteenth century US postmaster General and secretary of the interior, lived in the house as a child until age 10. The house is on the east end of the North Common adjacent to the Congregational Church of Chelsea.Context
The house was prominently featured in the 1983 holiday film, a gift of Love: a Christmas Story, with Angela Lansbury.
