Dorothy House 1930 [Independent R]epublican SUBSCRIPTION Outside $2.50 a Year In Orange and Sullivan Counties $1.00 A Year HISTORY OF CHESTER In order to tell the history of Chester, it is necessary to locate it. Of course we all know it is Orange county, bounded on the north by Goshen and Blooming-Grove, on the east by Blooming-Grove and Monroe, on the south by Warwick and on the west by Warwick and Goshen. During the years from 1755, Chester was a hamlet in the town of Goshen. It was not until the year 1845 the Township of Chester that was erected. It is situated on the main line of the Erie Railroad, which together with the Newburgh branch, Lehigh and Hudson and Orange Co. railroad make up the chief commercial outlet to the porch on the Hudson and Delaware rivers. It is also located on King's Highway between the New Windsor and New Jersey. The title of the most land of the Township is from the famous way on the pen. It is included in the Gran from Queen Anne dated March 5, 1703. On the day 12 inch chief of the 12 inch charges living in this land, so their title for consideration of money and goods. The Wawavanda patent included the land from the high hills of the Hudson to the Shawangunk mountains to Evans patent on the North, and the Jersey line South. This being rather indefinite caused a great discussion, the details of which I shall tell about later. The highest points of vantage in Chester township from which magnificant views may be obtained of the whole Wawayanda patent are Sugar Loaf mountain 1,220 feet elevation and Goose Pond mountain 826 feet above sea level. (If anyone who loves beautiful scenery has never been on Sugar mountain it would be wise to go. The scenery for miles around is well worth the climb, which is not hard.) The H. W. Wood: Hill at East Chester, the T. S. Durland Ridge at Greycourt and the Guy Miller gravel hill each have a magnificent outlook over a large scope of the country, from Schunnemunk to Shawangunk. In the valleys between these ridges are the old… ––– FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Chester. N. Y Rev. W. H. Wilcox, Pastor "The White Temple In The Center of the Town" ONE MINUTE SERMON Subject: "More Men Wanted" Text: Help those women which laboured with me in the Gospel Phil. 4-3 Many pastors are greatly encouraged by the increase of faith and works among their men, and the increased participation in all the activities of the Church, including attendance and efforts to win other men. But there is room for further improvement. The faithful workers in every Church are still hanging out the sign" "MORE MEN WANTED ." Thanking God for the increasing interest of men in religion, let us encourage this attitude by our own practices, and by saying to other men • "Come thou with us and we will do thee good." GOD'S MORNING Does not heaven begin that, day When the eager heart can say, "Surely in this place, I have seen him face to face In the loveliness of flowers In the service of the showers, And his voice has talked to me In the sunlit apple tree." Bliss Carmen TRUTHS ABOUT PRAYED "Prayer is the throwing opening of the windows of our lives in loving invitation to God to let the light of his life illumine" "Prayer is quiet, intense waiting for God to make his will known to us" "Prayers is God's conference room where relative values are assessed and right perspectives gained" "Prayer is the prison house of discipline into which we go to be purged of our sins and to renew allegiance to spiritual ideals" "Prayer is the anthem of exultation in which we express the of our souls" SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE "How do you know Jenkin's wife is away?"
