Hambletonian remembered
Franklin A. Devlin, President of harness racing’s Grand Circuit, places a wreath at the grave site monument to Hambletonian, the great progenitor of harness racing horses at nearby Chester. Hambletonian was born 120 years ago Monday in Sugar Loaf. Every contestant in Saturday’s $190,000 Messenger Stakes at Roosevelt Raceway descends from Hambletonian, who was a grandson of Messenger, the founder of the standardbred horse.Create Date
