This was strapped over the hoof of a horse or mule, allowing them to transverse the soft black dirt, without sinking in. Kinda like a snowshoe.
It may have been built by Ananias Brewster Lord, 1886-1962, (known as Lordy) at his blacksmith shop, uptown Chester.Collection
