Description

Leather Covered Trunk for traveling found by Marcella K. Hopwood in the attic of Frank & Stella Muruski house when she was a child. Frank & Stella Muruski were Marcella's godparents. Local lore is that this was Thaddeus Seely's Leather Covered Travel Trunk. One Thaddeus Seely, born 1738 built the house, circa 1754. Note a number of other Thaddeus Seely's have lived in Chester: (birth & death dates) 1756-1832, 1765-1829, 1782-1841, 1822-1864, 1833-1861. - - - The leather trunk is decorated with extensive brass nails and tooling. Blankets would have been stuffed into the lid, through the under lid trapdoor to provide cushioning for comfortable seating on the trunk lid. Internal lid restraining straps are later replacements. Lock frozen, key lost; Exterior leather securing straps lost. The rest of the trunk appears original.
