Description

This photo postcard shows the 1893 Fire Engine House located in Chester, N.Y. It was called "The Corporation Building," as held the office of the Village of Chester, and the local court. Built by Theodore A. Miller at a net cost of $4440, the Corporation Building was the first Chester firehouse, dedicated on August 10, 1896. Containing meeting rooms and a lockup (2 barred cells) on the lower floor and “Firemen’s Parlors” in the second story, the main floor was occupied by Walton Hose Company, organized November 6, 1893.
