HorsesDescription
This monochrome photo postcard features a solemn monument - a tall, thin obelisk of red granite over the grave of Hamilton 10, enclosed by a wrought iron fence. Set against a backdrop of large, billowy clouds, the scene conveys a serene atmosphere. At the bottom, the text labels it as "Monument to Hamilton in Chester." Tall trees flank the monument, further adding to its dignified and tranquil setting. The postcard itself shows signs of age with slight wear and discoloration. The address side of this postcard is densely covered with handwritten script on the message side. It has a designated section for the address only and features a one-cent U.S. postage stamp depicting Benjamin Franklin, canceled with a postmark dated "4 PM Feb 1, 1923" from Chester, New York. The postcard is addressed to "Mrs. J.D. Mapes, Oxford Depot, NY." The black eagle graphic, The Eagle Post Card Co. logo is also visible at the bottom center.Subject Person/Organization
