Memorandum of a Jaunt : Peter S. Townsend and the New York Lyceum of Natural History, diary of an explorer from Oyster Bay. The diary of twenty-two year old Peter Solomon Townsend of Oyster Bay, in which he tells of his adventures during two scientific expeditions into southeastern New York State - Chester, Montgomery, Newburgh and Ulster County. The expeditions were sanctioned by the New York Lyceum of Natural History (which later became the Museum of Natural History), and were attempts to locate fossil bones, including a mastodon skeleton. 77 pages.
