Description

A photocopy of the front page of an old edition of the New York Daily Times, including this article entitled: "A Night on the Erie Railroad" about a fierce Saturday snowstorm, where 35 passengers were stranded for hours in a cramped, freezing shanty at Newburgh Junction (Greycourt). Tensions eased when a generous passenger, Seely Roe, shared a box of figs from his trunk. Eventually, a rescue engine picked them up, navigating heavy snowbanks to reach Middletown before midnight. The group satisfied their hunger at an oyster saloon and slept soundly. By Sunday, clear skies revealed only five inches of snow.
