This monochrome photo postcard depicts an old schoolhouse in Craigville, NY, featuring a simple, rustic design with a bell tower and large windows, framed by a backdrop of trees and a wooden fence on the left; the building, nestled on a gentle slope, exudes a sense of historical charm, emphasized by the soft light filtering through the surrounding foliage, casting dappled shadows on the ground and structure. On the reverse is a handwritten, "Do you remember this dear old report?" from "Sue;" plus "Warren E" written upside down with a different pen.Subject Person/Organization

This Craigville School House still stands, now a private residence, along the road connecting Chester to Washingtonville.
In 1910 the road passed to the west side of school and crossed the Cromline Creek in the heart of the Craigville hamlet. That bridge is long gone, and this dead end road is now access to several dwellings.
NYS Route 94 now connects Chester to Washingtonville and passes to the east of the old school house.Create Date
