Erie Station on Main street at Monroe, NY. - - - From: James Nelson <nelsonja@fastmail.fm> Subject: Re: Erie Station at Monroe, NY postcard Date: December 7, 2011 2:25:01 PM EST To: Chester Historical Society <chester_historical@mac.com> Hi Cliff, I have the year for this post card as Sept., 1908....but you never know. Anyhow, this is the second station, the first station was located across from Seamanville Cemetery, but lasted less then a year when local businessmen wanted the station up closer to present village. So they leased a building to the railroad rent free to get them to move closer. The other station was used for freight. So this building was the station from 1842 until they built a new station in 1913. The new station was destroyed by a arsonist in 1977. The old station still stands at the end of Lake St. and has recently opened as a cafe. I'm guessing this unused postcard dates from late 1800s.
