Reproduced from an eBay auction: Undivided back real photo post card of Howland House, Chester, Orange County, New York. Postmarked 1906. Excellent condition. A sign saying "HOWLAND HOUSE" is clearly visible above the second story porch. A second sign can also be seen on the roof at the far right just below the cupola, reading "LIVERY SALE BOARDING". The white-shirted group of people sitting on the lawn in front of the hotel appears to be the staff posing for the camera. The Howland House is shown on the 1903 Orange County Atlas as being situated across from the Erie Railroad Station at Chester. It was owned at that time by Hinchcliffe Bros., and C.G. Baldwin is noted as the Proprietor. A set of railroad tracks is visible in the foreground of the photo.Create Date
