England; London; Cavanders Ltd.: Silver background with an illus. of Nguong Saui, patron for play actors, a man dressed in Chinese theater costume in red, green, blue, and yellow, it seems like he is dancing. See CHSA-07862-07886. Back: "Ancient Chinese No. 14."; "Nguong Saui is one of the gods or patron deities worshipped by Chinese play-actors, and is often referred to as the original composer of theatrical ballads. He is usually represented by a small wooden image, which is worshiped by the actors at their homes, where they burn incense and candles in his honour. When going away to perform a play they usually carry this image in the box containing their dresses.
