Text: "The Picture Shows Beautiful Exhibits of Genuine Foochow Lacquer Ware Made by Fukien Children's Home in the Chinese Building at A Century of Progress Exposition, Chicago. Fukien Children's Home was founded in 1923 in Foochow, by H. F. Tung and Y. L. Cheng, two young Chinese students. The Home had only 4 students when it was first founded and today the enrollment runs more than 300, ranging in age from 7 to 19 years. They are taught along the principle of Productive Education. The Lacquer Dept. had manufactured especially for A Century of Progress Exposition the following groups of exhibits: (1) Historical Statues, such as the ten great men of China, from Huang-Ti, the first Emperor to Sun Yat Sen, the first President of China. (2) Art Objects, such as lacquer screens of calissic designs, hand carved teakwood screens with stories dated back to Confucius' time, Oriental Beauty, Spirit of Flowers, etc. (3) Daily Utility Articles, such as nested tables, trays, boxes, desk, sets, tea sets, flower vases, etc. The Proviincial Government of Fukien has awarded the honor to Fukien Children's Home for its exhibits of merits and appointed H. F. Tung, as chief delegate to the Century of Progress Exposition. Mr. Tung is shown in this picture."; "'C. T. Art-Gravure', Made only by Curt Teich & Co., Inc., Chicago, U.S.A." Old Accession #: N)-
