Context

"Chas N. Kim was born in San Francisco (circa 1882), and moved to Kern county in 1900 to work as a cook at the N.P. Peterson farm. Six years later he came to Bakersfield, and in 1908 was employed by Standard Oil to supervise cook houses at Taft. He later engaged in the hotel business and was active in civic affairs of the large Chinese community which grew up on the West Side in the early (19)20s. He farmed at Dinuba and in the Cuyama Valley before returning in the late (19)20s to become a citrus grower in the Edison area. He developed the famous brand of Chas N. Kim Oranges which he distributed throughout the United States, and exported to Hong Kong and the Philippines." -from Newspaper Archive, Article clipped from Bakersfield Californian, dated Tue, Feb 06, 1962
