AT THE present time there is a great interest in colonial furniture. This interest shows itself not only in our homes but also in our schools and is as it should be, for what is more fitting than that American homes should be fitted with distinctly American furniture? The American youth should study American traditions in furniture making as well as in history. One of the greatest factors in raising American antiques to their present high value is the association of them with the daily life of people and events that are now history.
This book is presented as a reference and textbook on early American furniture design and construction. There seems to be very little available material dealing with early American design that is practical for use by craftsmen and students in high schools, normal schools, and vocational schools.
All the designs suggested are new, but hold very closely to the principles of early American design and construction.
All the problems are practical as well as attractive - two factors necessary in the home and school shops to create and hold interest.
The material as developed in these pages is practical for the beginner as well as the experienced craftsman. This is possible only when the designs are created instead of copied.Create Date
