Octavo, pp. [1-4] 5-286 [287-288: blank] [note: last leaf is a blank], printed in pink and black throughout, original boards with color pictorial paper onlay on front panel, decorated endpapers. First edition. Ten stories by Bulwer-Lytton, Miss Mitford, Agnes Strickland, Mrs. Gore, and others. A pretty little book with an unusual binding: a strip of cloth extends about a half-inch under the front and rear boards, and goes over the spine board: printed paper labels on spine and front provide the title and decoration, while decorative endpapers hold it all together. The front pictorial onlay has a nice drawing, in the manner of Edmund Frederick, of an idealized young woman. 1913 Christmas gift inscription on verso of front free endpaper. Several old Christmas stickers pasted to endpapers. A nearly fine copy. Scarce. OCLC reports 3 copies; no copies reported by COPAC. (#116440).-AbeBooks
