The Girl Reserve program began in the 1900s to support World War One efforts fostering "patriotic war work" by young girls. Posters like this were supported by the Committee on Public Information, a government agency charged with creating enthusiasm for war efforts. The Girl Reserves proved to be the most popular club program in the YWCA organization.
