Description
It is the general thesis of the contributors to this book, which was planned to commemorate the beginning of the second half of the century, that most of the pessimism of the present day is unjustified. While our immediate future does indeed look black, in many ways mankind is on firmer ground than ever before. In Twentieth Century Unlimited the plan has been both to review recent developments and to try to predict those to come. Sixteen of the most important aspects of human activity were selected and an outstanding expert in each field chosen to write the section dealing with his specialty. Each tells what is probably coming in the next fifty years in his own field, and at the same time he takes a hard look at the immediate. past and the present. --Book Flap
