Name/Title
Faith, Commitment, and Sacrifice: The Saints in Grand RapidsDescription
John Norton finished loading his family into the wagon. He decided to leave Nauvoo. As the story goes it was more like an escape. He had enough of Young's leadership. People would later describe his intentions in terms of this phrase, "when teh apostates went west, John John went east." East was Michigan. He arrived in the Alpine area north of Grand Rapids in 1854. He bought 80 acres of which he cleared 20 for farming. While visiting Hopkins, Michigan he discovered the Reorganized Church. E.C. Briggs, H. A. Stebbins, and David H. Smith were working in the area as missionaries. Anxious to hear more, John invited his home to the Alpine area. There were more people like John through the years.
Their stories of faith, commitment, and sacrifice both humble and inspire us as we extend their work into the present and future.Book Details
