Nick Downes writes, "I grew up in Concord, MA, as did, incidentally, Henry David Thoreau, While working in his father’s pencil factory, Thoreau perfected a pencil deemed as fine a pencil as produced by the best pencil-making factory in London. He then promptly vowed never to make another pencil, and walked off into the woods to do something or the other. I forget what." Nick was raised on Heaths Bridge Road where his sister, Annie, still resides.
