8 individual place settings of ceramic dishware. Each unique place setting design was inspired by a unique 5 piece set of silverware. I developed molds to form the square shape plates in both dinner, salad and saucer sizes along with wheel-thrown cups. Each unique design required layers of glaze and firings. I glazed each piece individually with several layers that required multiple firings.
My husband & I began collecting individual place setting of unusual contemporary silverware in the 1980's. In the 1990's I was studying ceramics under the renowned ceramicist Makoto Yabe at the DeCordova Museum. With his guidance and encouragement , I spent several years developing the designs and completing the firings. This project was inspired by the 1972 renowned project The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago.
