Monhegan - Katherine Barton

Name/Title

Monhegan - Katherine Barton

Description

Monhegan - "the island" - rising through the fog, seen from the approaching mail boat. One of six paintings by Katie Barton that she chose to include in the 2000 Bank of America exhibit. She and her husband frequently went to Monhegan, where they visited lifelong friend Hyde Solomon, well-known as one of the "Monhegan Painters". His influence may be seen in the sweeping blended shapes of subtle color in her watercolors. As a watercolorist, Katie used masterful brush strokes to paint the New England landscape from Concord to Cape Ann; Maine - especially Monhegan; and Nova Scotia. She taught art and design in multiple media at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Her work has been exhibited throughout New England.
