Raku Vase - Karen BelinkyDescription
Raku clay vase. Raku requires a special clay fired in a small, low temperature kiln. It is for decorative pieces only, since they are not waterproof when finished. Once glazed, they are fired for a short time until red hot. Using metal tongs, you remove the pots from the kiln and submerge them in a barrel of combustible material such as sawdust, straw or paper. When they cool, you see only black. You then scrub them under cold water until you can see the colors appear. The raku process is amazing. Watching the colors appear from the blackened surface as you scrub it is incredibly magical and exciting.Dimensions
