A certificate, "Appointment of Officers / By the Honourable the Minister of National Defense for Naval Services of the Dominion of Canada", is awarded to Dr. Charles William Maitland to the rank of Surgeon-Lieutenant, R.C.S.C of the Collingwood Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 'Hood' on January 4, 1945.
The certificate is printed on cream coloured paper. There is a black three-line border around the black printing. It is signed with light blue ink by the Deputy Minister of National Defence for Naval Services.
There is a pencilled "8" with a circle around it on the upper right-hand corner of the certificate.
Physical Characteristics: A certificate to Dr. Charles Maitland is printed on white, thick paper and has three thin lines for a border around the black text. A graphic of the Canadian Shield and the title, "Appointment of Officers", is at the top centre of the certificate. The text is printed in black, and there are black dotted lines, which have been filled in with black text from a typewriter. The dotted lines on the third line are filled in as follows: "Dr. Charles William Maitland" and "Surgeon-Lieutenant, R.C.S.C.". The dotted lines on the fourth line are filled in as follows: "Collingwood Royal Canadian" and "HOOD". Near the bottom of the certificate, the dates are typed on the dotted lines. One date is the "4th" day of "January" 19"45" in the "ninth" year of His Majesty's Reign. The other date is "5th, December 1944". The signature of the Deputy Minister of National Defence for Naval Services is in blue ink on a line between the two dates. The back of the certificate is blank.Archive Details
