Scope and Content

A letter and envelope addressed to Clifford Crosskill. The letter itself addresses him as "Neighbour" rather than by name. It asks him to vote "Yes" on June 8, 1964, in support of the authorization of authorized dining lounges in the township, which would allow licensed establishments to sell alcohol. The writer suggests that allowing authorized dining lounges would lower taxes by bringing in more money, increase employment by contributing to new businesses, and get rid of bootleggers by controlling the sale of alcohol. The letterhead indicates that it was sent by the Tourist & Ski Industry Committee of Collingwood Township. Also included in the envelope is a typed copy of an article which ran in the Globe and Mail on May 9, 1964, reporting on a study which suggested that access to legal alcohol was unlikely to contribute to alcoholism. The envelope is addressed to Mr. Clifford Crosskill of Clarksburg, Ont, and was stamped in Collingwood on June 4, 1964.
