Black and white photographic print affixed to a beige backing with a dark grey inner border, showing employees of the Thornbury Chemical Works posed in front of piled cords of wood a the water tower. Two paper labels are affixed to the reverse side, written in blue ink on the label in the center reads " Tom Goldsmith, Bill Neil, (Dad, Ern Boone), Joe Murano, Tom Pether, Harry Kenett, Tom Shane, Jack Hooey, Wilfred Reed, Ripper Holmes, Gordon Knott, Bill Knibbs, Judge Peterkin (Clifford), Howard Boone, Jack Coulson, Jim McMaster, Tom Pether". Written in blue ink on the label below reads "In 1909 the Chemical Works was started they employed 18 to 40 men. During the war payroll averaged $8000 monthly. It was closed in 1919. The wood was brought over daily from Christian Island by tug and scow. Charcoal, acetate of lime, surplus wood alcohol were the products produced".
