Scope and Content

A receipt for the Great West Life Assurance Company addressed to George Clifford Saul. The top of the receipt reads “The Great Life Assurance Company head office Winnipeg Canada” in black print. Below reads “received,” And written is “$500 Saul C.O.D $25.” And printed in black “for amount due on policy contact specified as per statement below.” A line separates the information, and typed in black print is “under policy number, it is P 414074,” next to that is “premium, $50,” next to that is “date due 7th February 1928,” below that information is the name of “George Clifford Saul,” below that is “countersigned date March 1st, 1928.” Next to that is a printed signature of the secretary, below which reads “This receipt is not valid unless countersigned by a cashier or agent.” Along the left-hand side, going from top to bottom, a box reads “first premium receipt.” The receipt has a decorative motif around the writing. The back of the policy reads “The annual meeting of the company will be held on the 1st Tuesday in February at 3:00 PM. No receipts for premiums shall be valid or binding on the company except those issued from head office upon the company's printed forms signed by the secretary and countersigned by the cashier or agent. Agents of the company have no authority to waive any of the conditions of the policy or to accept payment of premiums, except as provided in the terms of the policy.” In the bottom left-hand corner and small print, is “F89-4-27-50M.” The receipt has a watermark that is in the shape of a shield. The receipt has a large stain on the front and back that goes from the left across to the bottom right corner. There is a slight rip at the top centre of the page where it has been folded.
