Scope and Content

Mortgage for six hundred and fifty dollars lent to George and Flora Campbell from The Western Canada Loan and Savings Company. Watermarks show under the center of the document and on the left and right-hand sides Physical Characteristics: The mortgage is on a large piece of paper that is folded in half to create four pages. The text is in black, sections are preprinted, and there are other sections that have been filled in by hand in black ink. The first page has "This Indenture," in large stylized black preprinted text. The page is dated, "twenty-fifth day of November one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six". Near the top half, the names of the mortgagees are filled in: "George Campbell of the Township of Collingwood in the County of Grey Yeoman"; and "Flora Campbell", his wife. The bottom half of the first page is filled in with handwritten text. The second page is mainly preformatted text, and some handwritten text is added. The amount of the mortgage is filled in by hand near the top, "Six hundred and fifty ------ dollars" with an interest rate of "six and one half per cent". The third page has preformatted text and three signatures at the bottom: an unknown signature starting with C; George Campbell; and Flora Campbell. Two red circular stickers are near the side of the page, just to the right of both George and Flora Campbell's signatures. The back page has preformatted and handwritten text, which is horizontal (parallel to the centre fold). The text is divided into three sections: two sections on the left half and one large section that takes up the right half. In one section is a number, "7992", handwritten in red ink.
