Name/Title

Trochonema (Gastropod)

Entry/Object ID

LN2009.3.21

Description

One or two specimens of a gastropod genus identified in the original catalog as Trochonema. This presents issues with the given age of Miocene, since Trochonema went extinct in the Permian. Southwest Oregon has some of the oldest rocks in the state, so it is possible that the identification is correct. The given age could be wrong instead, or perhaps the fossil was weathered out, transported, and redeposited into younger sediments. Phylum: Mollusca Class: Gastropoda Order: †Murchisoniina Family: †Trochonematidae Genus: †Trochonema
