Chemical Composition: SiO2 Crystal System: Orthorhombic System Description: Common Name: Quartz var. agate (laguna) Chemistry: SiO2 Group: Silicates Location: Chihuahua, Mexico Description: Large, "bell" shape with conglomerate of beige, tan, brown and reds with some smokey gray on outer areas. Inner area is banded red, pink, burnt yellow and green with a creamy yellow crystalline center. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Agate ( /'æg?t/) is a microcrystalline variety of silica, chiefly chalcedony, characterised by its fineness of grain and brightness of color. Although agates may be found in various kinds of rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks and can be common in certain metamorphic rocks.
