Description

Two halves of a 30.8 cm thick piece of petrified wood from McDermitt, Oregon (se Oregon). Origin from the sea becoming driftwood. Delmar Smith believes it's from ancient Bonneville lake (nw Oregon). Colors: tans to dark brown (found mostly along the edges). Hard pinkish-brown coating along outside. One half has a chunk missing from lower left hand corner and also 1/2 limb missing from top. Piece probably from Oligocene epoch (Tertiary period, Cenozoic era). Growth rings apparent. ~40 mya (Tertiary period of the Cenozoic era)
