Description

A 1.2 cm piece of petrified wood from Texas, in Chinle formation (note: physical document states: "shin-leaf" formation, see image). This was a warm weather tropical plant Pieces show pores widely spaced around the edge; indication that this was a rootless plant. Pores were in bunches towards the center. Colors: Grey in the center with blue-grey edging containing white streaks; graduating to a light brown band, then dark brown, then beige, tan, and light beige. Delmar Smith says this is the best out of all the palm pieces he has. Probably from the Jurassic period, Mesozoic era (~200 mya). (piece shattered/destroyed).
