Description: Phylum: Chordata Family: Otodontidae Order: Lamniformes Genus: Otodus Species: otodus obliquus Common Name: Mackerel Shark Tooth Age: Eocene Location: Khouribga, Morocco, Africa Description: Large rounded sandstone matrix with a single tooth embedded (approx. 2.125") at the base of r0ock. Color is creamy tan to chalky white. Tooth has slight curve to it. Physical Characteristics: The mackerel shark resembles the white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). It has a spindle-shaped body and a very pointed (conical) snout. Contrary to the white shark this species has two keels on the tail fin and the free back end of the first dorsal fin is white.
