Retrieved from Enamel Arts Foundation website: [https://www.enamelarts.org/descansos-ii/] The Descansos brooch was created at the same time period as the Proust Reliquary Box and is also inspired by roadside memorials. The spiral in the enamel is made by embedding fine iron wire into the enamel and firing. I am really excited about this technique and the graphic quality it creates. This brooch also has pieces of 24k gold foil fired in and a final coat of enamel that has been sugar fired, creating the beautiful textured surface. In this piece the wire represents a fine imaginary thread, that anchors us to the earth. [IR 06/25/2025]
