General Notes

Note

Retrieved from the Enamel Arts Foundation website: [https://www.enamelarts.org/set-sail/] Another autobiographical piece, Set Sail/Find Home Brooch reflects some of the artist’s mixed feelings about returning to his parents’ home in Quincy, Illinois after completing graduate school. With its image of pirate, wearing a skull-covered eye patch and cap, this unusually large brooch embodies Lechtenberg’s fears and disappointments. However, in spite of the self-deprecating “YB Sucks” on the reverse, the inscription “Set Sail/Find Home and What It Means” underscores Lechtenberg’s determination to remain hopeful, push forward, and keep moving ahead.
