This is a preparatory drawing for the print Sharkline II, and provides a good sense of Bates's signature style, featuring angular, gestural lines that define the crouching figure; loose and aggressive mark-making; and the simplified, flattened facial features. Although I don't have the print that David Bates created from this image, I do have another large 20-color woodblock print of a floral arrangement by the artist, which can be found in the Original Prints folder.
