The ingenious composition of this image comes from Chou's use of the diagonal: the triangular shape of black hair that fills the upper right corner; the wooden bar on the right that moves from bottom to top; the sutra block itself; and finally the hand of the cutter holding multiple knives between his fingers. An intense energy emerges from the arrangement, softened perhaps by the very human practicality of the process.
