Just as van Gogh in his drawings was able to delineate fields and trees and space using only the most basic marks, Wu Song Ming captures the feeling of the mountains around Taipei using only the most simple yet insightful type of cuts. Look, for example, at how on the right side of the image he is able to effectively describe in a few simple marks a set of stairs leading from one building up to what is likely a temple. Masterfully, Song Ming balances the density of the mountains and the rigidity of the buildings with the open sky above the mountain peaks: a band of black, and a band of white with four simple, angular cloud shapes.Inscription/Signature/Marks
