This was likely one of the earliest of the color pencil drawings I made, starting in 2005, since it appears to be the most straightforward in terms of subject. layering is not so prominent and the picture plane is divided diagonally by the irregular shape of the orange flower contrasted to the light blue background. I added a deeper purple edge at the top because that's what I saw artists doing in Japanese woodblock prints from the Ukiyo-e period. The large petals here are folded and laid across each other, and the dark center of the plant grounds the whole image.Inscription/Signature/Marks
