This lovely painting in oil on canvas features several of Kuo Chien Chou's signature techniques: delicate brushwork, diffused edges, dreamlike landscapes, and brilliant handling of color. Central to the composition is a river that crosses horizontally at the lower edge of the picture plane, and which then weaves vertically into the mountains, where it seems to morph into a brilliant triangle of blue. The intense golden orange of the sky dramatically defines the top edge of lush, verdant mountains. In the left foreground, a fountain of light, defined by broken, inscribed lines, seems to shift into flower-like shapes as it rises. The feeling here is that the mountains are alive, encroaching upon the meandering river.Inscription/Signature/Marks

This painting was acquired from the artist, whose supporters like me paid a monthly "subscription" for a period of time, at the end of which there was an exhibit of all the paintings she had produced. Supporters then participated in a lottery to establish the order of choosing which painting they wanted.The painting was framed according to the artist's request. The frame is white-painted wood and the canvas is attached to the back of the interior white board, so it appears to float.
