A good friend of mine, Brad Blackstone, had moved to Akita to teach after a stint at Indiana University in Malaysia, where we'd met. I traveled to visit him on more than one occasion, and during this snowy winter I ventured out to a temple nearby his house. Parts of it were under repair, or at least were being protected by a blue tarp, and luckily its color and shape add interest to this image.
