Revisiting this image for the purposes of cataloging it, I am overwhelmed with the memory of standing at a worktable in Song Ming's studio as he brought out his journals and I flipped through them. In this "sketch", Song Ming has used horizontal bands of color washes that are balanced by the vertical solidity of what appears to be a human figure. Further energy is generated by the slashing angular strokes in the lower left. Song Ming cleverly applies a slight softening of some lines in the mountain shapes behind the figure.Inscription/Signature/Marks
