Description

0031 - Gail Ford, Queen of Parade - Pagent girls seating on stage with line of adults standing behind, Cadets? with rifles standing to left and right. Little girl sitting centre on stage steps Black and White photo, framed Girls from l to r: Incoming May Queen and attendants Clara Bliss (nee Whitten); me, (Arlene Matches nee Stephenson); Gail Ford; and outgoing May Queen and attendants, Lois Skoglund; Joan Smith (nee Lenton) and Carol Flynn. And, of course, in front is cute little Leslie Horsman—her Dad also had the beautiful convertible car we sat on during the parade. The ladies in the back row (4th from left) are Shirley Graves (who organized the majorettes and taught us how to do the May Pole Dance) and next to her (5th from left) is Mrs. Donald Elliott (Eileen). Don was a prominent member of the community. I think the man on the extreme left in the back row is “Babe Dowling” who only had one leg—he walked the entire PNE parade for the Lion’s Club using only his crutches. We thought he was superman. I believe the large man was either a Mayor or a Reeve of the District of North Vancouver (standing with his wife).
