Smith Ridge Road, begins U. S .Route 1 just north of the village of Dennysville, and continues through to the Damon Ridge Road in Charlotte.Context
The Smith Ridge Road was one of the earliest roads in the settlement at Dennys River, pioneered by several branches of the Smith family. Prior to the relocation of Route 1 in the 1950's, it was linked to several other smaller local roads. Rebecca Hobart notes: "There were many early houses on the main road in Lower Dennysville, on the Shipyard Road, the Smith Ridge Road, and the Crossroad. They were the homes of Jones, Dudley, Ball, Sprague, Page, Lyons, Bennet, Ward, York, Farley, Mattheson, McCarlie, Robinson, Dunn, Fenderson, Antone, Sinclair, Brown and Anthony families among others."Collection
